Had I the wings of a Dove
When somebody is left alone to survive in this green world, he or she loses the rhythm of life’s flow and then loses the courage to live and finally surrenders to fate. But this is true only for those who believes in fate and destiny but don’t dare to reverse the flow of current .The one and the only one secret is fearlessness.
Minerva was about to bade good bye to Antariksh holding Rudra and Shivani with a firm grip .That was the last bus from the valley of tribes to the plains. She doesn’t know what lies for her in the future but she strongly believes working in the present for perfect manifestation of a strong base.
“Are you sure Minerva, you can manage to build a home alone. We still have time, Rudra and Shivani are at their tender age; this is a high time and they need their father too. Why don’t you understand, Minerva?” Although these words seem to have no impact on Minerva, Antariksh said what he had to say and the rest was her choice.
“Arey, it doesn’t suits a Police Officer like you to be overly emotional. I know your duty hours are 24✖7, but I too have to ponder about Rudra and Shivani’s future and our late sixties. We need a home, Antariksh, we need a home”.
As both of them were taking with each other, the bus horn bowled. Both of them looked at each other’s eyes and a silent wave confided both in concertizing the family’s base.
The bus left for its destination.
“Mummy, please, please don’t separate us from dad, please. At least leave me with dad, you take Rudra with you, please mummy. Why dad accepted your decision, why? I don’t need a home, I need dad”.
The entire bus was filled with weeping sound of Shivani. She couldn’t bear the partition nor is she of the age of understanding and judging any of these. She is still a child who is too much attached to her dad.
With tears rolling down her cheeks Shivani, pleaded once again, “Mummy, I’ll not do any mischief any more. Why dad accepted your decision?”
Taking a deep breath and eyes gazing at a far distance through the bus window, Minerva spoke in a low voice, “You want to know why, Shivani?
….it’s because I said so”.
Rudra already was lost in a dreamland in his mother’s lap and didn’t have any grasp of what happened.
Antariksh an honest police officer was a responsible father too but his job keeps him away from his family. Whose decision was it that they will live apart they couldn’t recall and in passing time they don’t know, they forgot who plotted the seed.
Antariksh could hardly visit his home which they had built in their native place. In passing time Minerva had to take the responsibilities of both mother and a mother.
“Mom…..why can’t I go to enjoy ‘Terminator 🎥 with my friends? Is it because, I’m a girl. I know my limitations mom. Why can’t I go?
“……..because I said so”, with an ordering voice and final decision giving, Minerva stopped the conversation and became busy in her household activities.
Shivani didn’t further argue with her and went silently to her room; an obedient daughter like Shivani can’t do more than this.
How time passed, how Rudra and Shivani stuck out their adolescence, Minerva couldn’t even count.
To make a fair means of mode of communication Antariksh installed a land-line connection in his recent visit. A great sense of understanding grew between Antariksh and Minerva. One works in a foreign land to earn for the family and the other maintains and runs the family efficiently with the monthly funds sent by money order or by hand to hand.
There was no one to command her. She became the master of her little world which she believes she created by her own. Dictatorship started ruling the house, Minerva being the sole dictator.
‘Tring, tring…..Tring, tring…..’
“Rudra, keep the phone….I say keep the phone”.
“But Mom,…why?”
“Why?........ Because I said so, making the conversation short and cutting the phone call, Minerva became busy in her household activities as usual. In fact she tried her best to keep Rudra and Shivani as a prince and a princess. She always keeps a sharp eye on both of them as she never wants Antariksh to think that she is neglecting her duties.
“Shivani, I’m fed up hearing the same dialogue again and again. I feel that I’ve lost my independence”.
“No Rudra, don’t be so upset. It’s just a matter of phone call. Mom really loves both of us to her extremes. May be her loneliness and responsibility made her a bit tough; don’t you think so”.
Shivani’s words acted as a soothing wave and Rudra hugged her and started weeping.
“Why mom and dad decided to live separately.
This time, Shivani thought of making a commitment with her own self and make Rudra sure that he too make the commitment.
“My dear little brother, today let me give you a little knowledge which I feel have learned indirectly from Mom. To build a house is easy; it just needs money and time which I believe we have but to build a home we need emotions, mutual understanding and a sense of compassion. Now you say Rudra do we owe all these, have we built a home, I mean to say… a sweet home”.
Rubbing her left palm on Rudra’s forehead Shivani lulled him to sleep. She didn’t even imagine that her words could be heard by a third person when she heard someone weeping on the other room.
“Mom, mom, please open the door. I know you heard everything. Don’t cry. The first flare of rebel was turned out. I’m your daughter; I know what hardship you and dad have to build this home. Please open the door mom”.
“I’m sorry Shivani I didn’t know that you two have grown up”.
“No, mom, no. Don’t say sorry. You are our hero”, as Minerva heard the voice of Rudra, she burst into tears. She opened the door and hugged both of them.
“Sorry, I was so harsh with both of you, but I’ve no option dear”.
For the first time in their life, they saw the fearless lady crying. Both of them understood that life is not a bed of roses.
“Mom, why don’t I go for cinemas?” Shivani asked humorously.
“….because I said so”, a question which needed no answer was answered.
“Mom; why we are here, not with dad?”
“…because I said so”.
“From today I’ll not run towards the phone as soon as it rings, why is it so, mom?” Rudra joined in the communication.
The answer of the recent why is responded once again by Minerva, “…..because I said so”.
The entire home (not house) was filled with the sounds of laughter and gained a new life after a long time.
“Ting tong… ..Ting tong...”, as soon as the door bell rang all the three stopped laughing and giggling. Minerva wiped her tears and opened the door. To everybody’s surprised there stood the man without whom the family 👪 would be incomplete.
“Dad …what a pleasant surprise!”
“Antariksh, is everything okay”, Minerva took the briefcase and freed him.
“Ya, everything is Okay. I think we have completed our trials. I’m transferred to my home town. From now, we all will be living together. Thanks Minerva thanks a lot for taking both the responsibilities of a dad and a mom in my absence.”
That night seemed to halt for the family and the house was filled with positive emotions force better future.
“By the way dad, who first said that you two will have to part to build a sweet home”.
As Rudra eagerly asked his never ending query, Minerva replied shyly, “It was I who said so”.
Leaving their fate not for destiny and with strong will to build it, all of them tucked to the same bed after a long time.
………good night………Sweet dreams…
